Video Streams

For video streaming we strongly recommend using HLS (Http Live Streaming) since this is by far the most compatible protocol. That being said, Smartsign allows you to book any kind of video stream, but the playback is entirely dependent on the playback device so results will vary.

Keep in mind that streaming video requires a constant network connection and can consume a lot of bandwidth. Each device must continuously download the stream by itself.

note

Consider streaming content rights; you are responsible for obtaining the necessary rights and licenses for any content you upload and display on your screens using Smartsign.

YouTube

YouTube videos (public) are conveniently booked as video streams, although technically it is a webpage with an embedded player/stream. When adding a YouTube video Smartsign automatically fetches a thumbnail and the correct duration for it.

YouTube works on most newer devices, typically dependent on browser version.

Vimeo

Vimeo videos (public) are conveniently booked as video streams, although technically it is a webpage with an embedded player/stream. When adding a Vimeo video Smartsign automatically fetches a thumbnail and the correct duration for it.

Vimeo compatibility is dependent on the screens browser version. It currently requires approximately Chrome 79 or higher.
